The Linden Public School District is proud to announce the implementation of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center, a multi-million dollar competitive grant awarded to Joseph E. Soehl Middle School. The program is designed to provide comprehensive after-school services to students in grades six through eight, running from 2:45 PM to 5:45 PM daily.
The program is structured to meet the academic and recreational needs of students, with a focus on integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) themes into all activities. The program consists of three components, including a Homework Tutorial class, structured enrichment classes, and a variety of recreation classes.
The Homework Tutorial class offers students the opportunity to work on assignments, form study groups, and prepare for assessments with the support of an academic teacher and highly qualified paraprofessional. Structured enrichment classes provide students with hands-on experiences in a variety of subjects, including Language Arts, Mathematics, STEM, Media Technology, Physical Education, and Character Education. The recreation classes offer a range of activities, including Open Gym, Jewelry Making, Media, Art, Photography, Yoga, Miniature Golf, and more.
In addition to the core components of the program, the 21st CCLC also offers a variety of family-focused activities, including monthly parenting workshops, family nights, class trips, community service opportunities, and guest speakers.
