Letter regarding NJ mask mandate

Governor Murphy announced today, Monday, February 7, that he is lifting his statewide mask mandate for schools as of March 7 and leaving the decision on whether to require masks to individual school districts.

The Linden Board of Education will discuss this topic during the next board meeting on February 22, and we will keep parents, students, and staff updated on any decision. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the School No. 1 gymnasium and will be available for viewing virtually through Webex.

The health, safety, and mental well-being of our students and staff are always the No. 1 priority for our district. We will give any potential change to our policies careful consideration in the coming weeks in order to do what’s best for our school community, and your input is welcomed. Our COVID numbers have been falling steadily and we hope to ensure that they continue to do so.

We continue to urge everyone in our schools,  ages 5 and up to get vaccinated and boosted when appropriate. This is the best way for us to return to a normal school environment while keeping everyone safe. Thank you for your understanding and input as we continue to navigate our way through the pandemic.

Carpe diem,

Dr. Marnie Hazelton

Superintendent of Schools
