All schools will be virtual following Spring Recess

All students and staff will work virtually for the week of April 5 to April 9 to minimize any threat of infection following possible family travel during the break.

======================================

We are very happy that Linden’s COVID-19 infection rate has stabilized to the point that we have been able to safely switch our schools to a hybrid learning model since Feb. 17.

To help ensure that the rate of spread continues to remain low in our school buildings, we will be instituting a “soft quarantine” for the week following Spring Recess. All students and staff will work virtually for the week of April 5 to April 9 to minimize any threat of infection following possible family travel during the break.

We remain committed to returning students and staff to our buildings in the safest way possible. This is a precautionary step to help us maintain our trajectory back to normalcy.

We remind everyone that Linden Public Schools are following CDC guidelines on travel and quarantining for all students and staff members. Please see the updated CDC and New Jersey Department of Health guidelines listed below regarding travel and quarantining. https://covid19.nj.gov/faqs/nj-information/travel-and-transportation/are-there-travel-restrictions-to-or-from-new-jersey#direct-link

Travelers and residents returning from any U.S. state or territory beyond the immediate region (New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware) should self-quarantine at their home, hotel, or other temporary lodgings following recommendations from the CDC:

  • If travel is unavoidable, travelers should consider getting tested with a viral test (not an antibody test) 1-3 days before the trip and again 3-5 days after the trip.
  • If travelers test positive, they should self-isolate for at least 10 days and should postpone travel during that time.
  • If travelers test negative, they should quarantine for a full 7 days after travel.
  • If testing is not available (or if the results are delayed), travelers should quarantine for 10 days after travel.

For international travel:

On January 12, 2021, CDC announced an Order requiring all air passengers arriving in the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to present the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. Air passengers will also be required to confirm that the information they present is true in the form of an attestation. Anyone traveling internationally should follow the same protocol outlined above.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we work together to overcome this challenge.

Carpe diem,

Dr. Marnie Hazelton
Superintendent of Schools
