During this 2021-22 school year, social-emotional learning has been an intricate part of Mr. Macha’s Language Arts class. A number of texts, fiction and non-fiction, were analyzed and writing assignments were performed on stage. These works explored highly relevant SEL topics such as mental health, the importance of friendship, social media overuse, and substance abuse to name a few.

Additionally, during specially designated SEL days, the students self-reflected in writing on commonly shared experiences and challenges of the last two years. Many of Mr. Macha’s students shared their reflections on stage while the rest gathered around the stage and listened eagerly, some teary-eyed, creating a true sense of a class family.
