The Linden Public School District’s 21st Century Community Leaning Center provides sixth through eighth grade students with a successful education and enrichment program after the regular school day has ended. The after school program provides a comprehensive and supplemental program of learning and enrichment opportunities that is delivered after school at Joseph E. Soehl Middle School. The after school program operates from 2:45 – 5:45 pm every day that regular school is in session.
The wide variety of programs that are offered will improve their academic performance and promote positive social behavior andappropriate interaction with peers and parents. The after school program works with several local community agencies and partners such as: Jewish Family Services of Central New Jersey, Rahway YMCA, Prevention Links, Union County Youth Services Bureau, Sherriff’s Department, Linden Library and Rutgers Gardens.
The program offers one hour of homework tutorial provided by an academic teacher and a highly qualified paraprofessional. The second hour of the program are rotating STEM enrichment classes such as Language Arts, Mathematics, Character Education, Physical Education Design Squad, Lego Robotics, Media Technology and Life Skills. The final hour of the program consists of a comprehensive recreational offering of classes such as Open Gym, Jewelry Making, Crochet, Interactive Game Room, Keyboarding, ROTC, Zumba, Chess etc. The 21st CCLC Program also coordinates monthly family nights, class trips, community service, guest speakers, assemblies, parenting workshops, mentoring programs, NJ ASK preparation, counseling services, expanded library and media hours and daily snacks.
The Linden 21st CCLC has a positive impact on our children through an important transitional stage and helps them to become productive citizens. The purpose of the Linden 21st CCLC Program is to establish an environment that provides students with academic enrichment opportunities along with activities designed to compliment the students’ regular academic program.
