Dear Stakeholders of the Linden Public Schools:
I am pleased to introduce myself as the Superintendent of Schools. As an experienced educator, I bring a passion for ensuring every student has an opportunity to achieve their best. This is my 21st year of First Day of Schools, serving in our district. I relate my feelings to how students may feel on their first day of school. When I was a Principal, Vice-Principal, Fourth-grade teacher, Substitute, or Parent dropping my child off at one of our schools, the first day brings anticipation, excitement, and curiosity. As it was then, and is now, I love to learn and grow, and the district provides me with tremendous gratification to do both.
I am thrilled about the future of our district and look forward to creating a dynamic and engaging learning community. I will be visible within our schools as I partner with educators to elevate learning.
Our district must demonstrate a student-centered approach that recognizes and celebrates the unique needs of every single student. Our learning environments will foster positive relationship building. I aim to support our student’s mental, social, and academic well-being. Regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, gender, or socioeconomic background, our students must have access to a quality education that prepares them to compete in high-demand careers. I see my younger self in our students and am committed to advocating for
them.
The summer is upon us, and I wish you all a safe and productive summer. I will contact parents and community members in the upcoming weeks and months to listen to their ideas and concerns about our schools. I am committed to transparent and open communication and will always inform you about significant developments in our district. Thank you for your continued support of our schools, and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Take care,
Atiya Y. Perkins
