LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, NJ -- In the season of giving, students in the Before and After School Program at School No. 2 are basking in the warmth of Thanksgiving! This past month, they embraced gratitude, creativity, and learning through a variety of engaging and meaningful activities that celebrated the spirit of the holiday.
At School No. 2, students explored Native American history and the cultural significance of teepees by crafting their own with paper and sticks—each one uniquely impressive!
They also painted beautiful watercolors while reflecting on and writing about everything they are thankful for, sharing heartfelt sentiments that captured the true essence of the season.
One of the highlights was Ms. Rivera’s captivating Thanksgiving story, which the students adored. Older students practiced their speech skills by reading aloud passages, while younger learners enjoyed the story together, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.
The Linden Public Schools' Before and After School Program operates at all eight elementary schools, providing both morning and after-school care. Staffed by district teachers, secretaries, paraprofessionals, and instructional aides, the program offers a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment where students receive homework support, participate in recreational and enrichment activities, and foster meaningful social connections.
According to Frances Czylek, Supervisor of the district's Before/After School Programs, the program’s dedicated staff create a safe, nurturing, enriching, and fun environment, bridging the gap between school and home while fostering academic success, socialization, and personal growth.

On Wednesday, March 14, 2024, the World Language teachers at the Linden Public Schools, along with the Director of Multilingual Learners, participated in the FLENJ 2024 Annual Conference: “Hand in Hand: Language and Culture in the Classroom.”

Philemon Valcin, a bright mind in Mrs. Lee’s 5th grade class at School No. 10, takes us on an incredible journey through the life cycle of a butterfly!
Here’s how these delicate creatures transform:
Egg: It all starts with a tiny egg, where life begins! Philemon shares how the butterflies in his class began their journey in this stage, full of potential.
Caterpillar (Larva): After hatching, the caterpillars emerged and immediately got to work eating nectar from the bottom of the jar. The more they ate, the more they grew—talk about a delicious growth spurt!
Chrysalis (Pupa): Once full, the caterpillars climbed to the top of the jar to create a chrysalis. In this magical stage, their transformation into butterflies takes place!
Butterfly (Adult): Finally, the chrysalis opened, revealing beautiful adult butterflies ready to spread their wings and take flight. What an incredible transformation!

Linden’s NJROTC Unit Joins the 105th Annual Veterans Day Parade in NYC
LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, NJ — Our exceptional Linden NJROTC unit proudly participated in the 105th annual Veterans Day Parade—the nation’s largest event honoring military service—organized by the United War Veterans Council.
Leading the unit were CO Josue Carpio, XO Denae Griffin, CMC Alonzo Smith, and OPS Alivia Young-Bey, supported by Commander Decker, Chief Velez, and Senior Chief Dejean. Marching alongside nearly 300 other units and 20,000 participants from across the country, 170 cadets demonstrated their commitment to service and community.
The mile-long parade route, from 26th St. up 5th Ave. to 47th St., featured over 150 vehicles, 25 floats, military units, veterans’ organizations, and lively marching bands.
This year’s grand marshal, Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, a distinguished United States
Marine who served in Afghanistan, led the celebration.
Spectators on both sides of the route applauded the cadets and their tribute to veterans. Battalion CO Olivia Pudelko expressed, “It was outstanding to see all the cadets squared away honoring the Veterans, especially those that were present.”
Superintendent Atiya Y. Perkins shared her pride, saying, “Seeing our NJROTC cadets march in the nation’s largest Veterans Day Parade fills me with immense pride. Their discipline, respect, and dedication reflect the very best of Linden Public Schools. We are honored to have students who uphold the legacy of service and remind us all of the sacrifices made by our veterans.”
